West played the first movement of the Kabalevsky violin concerto in the DePaul concerto festival for young musicians on Sunday.
She wasn’t feeling well at the weekend and almost didn’t go. I’m glad she did because even with not feeling her best the judges called her teacher yesterday and said she received an ‘honorable’ mention. They want her to be at the winners’ concert to receive a certificate.
It was a ‘closed’ competition – no audience – so I wasn’t able to record it. I thought it sounded pretty good as best I could tell from outside the door. Evidently the judges agreed!
