| West – Kabalevsky | Ben – Liszt |
Ben and West both participated in the MYA competition this year. West played the first movement of the Kabalevsky Youth Concerto (piano) and Ben played the first movement of the Liszt piano concerto no. 1. This is the first time West has performed the Kabalevsky. Ben has played the Liszt in a few competitions already and has three more coming up in the next three months.
Although Ben and West both played very well, neither of them won or received an honorable mention. This is a hard competition to win or receive honorable mention in because a lot of students enter it (over 200 this year) and some are very advanced. In a week or two they’ll receive written comments from the judges – it’s always interesting to see those. They also get a DVD of them playing along with the comments.
