West entered the OPRF Symphony competition this year – it was held on Saturday. She played the first movement of the Barber violin concerto.
She didn’t win but we thought she played very well and held her own against the other six competitors who were all at least two years older than her. The judges comments included this: “This was a difficult piece to interpret. You are a very good violinist and will improve with maturity.”
The winner was a cellist who played very well and is a senior in high school. We thought he’d probably win.
Here’s an audio recording of her competition performance (made by Steve)
