Almost 5500 churches in the US and Canada are recognizing today as Amazing Grace Sunday.
This campaign sounded a bit ‘churchy’ for me when I first heard about it. Now I’ve decided I like it, since it’s about ending modern-day slavery around the world. So I was very pleased to see the church I used to go to has the logo for it on their site – i.e. they are evidently in support of it. There are a few churches registered in support of it from my ‘village’ but they are the only conservative one I saw on the list. Which makes me even more impressed.
We celebrated it too. My wife did a big presentation on modern slavery and our entire sermon focused on social justice issues and Isaiah 58. It fit really well, since we’ve been doing a series on our church’s values, and we had just gotten to our value on compassion and service for the poor and oppressed.
I’m looking forward to the movie too. Wilberforce’s story is really cool one that IMO ought to be more well known among contemporary Christians.
Wow, that sounds neat, Mike.
I definitely want to go see the movie.
