The first part of a two part adaptation of Jane Eyre was on PBS last night.

I don’t watch much TV but I do try to catch the BBC adaptations of classic literature. This was very well done, I thought.

I reread Jane Eyre about a year ago (because a radio book club was discussing it). I loved their comments about what a strong woman Jane is. She certainly is. I love how the author depicts Mr Rochester and his relationship with Jane. He’s fascinating and his relationship with her is so interesting. It’s encouraging, because they like each other for who they are on the inside. Which is so different from the world around them, where so much is based on superficial considerations such as socio-economic status.

  1. I love Jane Austen! Emma is my favourite character of hers – very superficial and yet very likeable. I like what you wrote Helen about Elizabeth and Darcy valuing what was on the inside. That is SUCH a good thing! Cheers,

  2. ooops! i’m abit spaced out right now, having just flown back from australia! i just re-read your comment, and it is about an entirely different book!! I love (Charlotte) Bronte, too!! How bizarre, that i didn’t really read your entry and thought i did and responded … how much of human communication is like that i wonder?

  3. Meg, lol 🙂 – I love Pride and Prejudice too and I agree about Elizabeth and Darcy!
